CABLE CHARGES.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—MIES J association.] I • 'yv Wmxikoton," Friday. j In consequence of the opening of the Pacific J Cable 1 the following cable rates have been | decided upon : — - '-' To New South Wales, Victoria. South and West. Australia, ordinary messages 4id a word, Government messages 3|d a word. To Tasmania, ordinary messages oJ<t a word. These rates will also apply to messages by the Eastern Extension Company's cables, except the rate for Government messages. To Norfolk Island, ordinary 3d a word, Government 2d. To Fiji, ordinary Bd, Government 6d. International messages ill also be accepted by the Pacific cable, the rates being the.same as over tlo Eastern Extension cable. The charge for press messages between Fiji and New Zealand will be 3d a word, plus 6d per 100 words, or a fraction thereof, for transmission over the New Zealand land lines. All the above rates came into force to-day.

The New Zealand Post and Telegraph Department has received the following from Brisbane: —"Business received from New Zealand for international endorsed " via Co'cos." Adelaide advises us all traffic between two p.m. and midnight, .South Australian time—that is, twenty minutes after Brisbane time—is sent via Darwin, so this course will be followed in messages referred to."
