THE COMMAND OP THE AUCKLAND VOLUNTEER DISTRICT. It is understood that in the absence in South Africa of Colonel Davies, C.8., the Auckland volunteer district will be placed under the acting command -of Captain Reid, district adjutant.' During his term as adjutant Captain Reid has by close and unremitting attention to 'his duties and the lively interest he has manifested in the welfare of volunteering made himself extremely popular with, both officers and men, and the appointment is one that will 'no doubt be hailed with general satisfaction. CAMP AT ONEHUNGA. Tho Onehunga Volunteer Rifle Corps, under Captain W. N. Mcintosh, went into camp on Saturday. Tho camp is, as usual, 'on the Onehunga Recreation Reserve, an ideal place for the purpose. Yesterday morning the company and the Onehunga Public School Cadets attended divine service at St. Peter's Anglican Church, when an appropriate sermon was preached by the vicar (Canon Haselden). ■ THAMES RIFLES. [FROM OUR own CORRESPONDENT.] -i : Thames, Saturday. The No. 1 Thames Rifles, under the command of Captain Shand, went into camp on the Parawai racecourse this evening, and will remain, there for a week. SergeantMajor Hoar, drill instructor, will also be present during tlio encampment in order to impart instruction to the men. The first competition for the valuable silver cup presented' by Mr. A. Rogers to the No. 1 Thames Rifles took place to-day at the Parawai range. Tho conditions under which tho trophy is to be competed for are that- it must.be won five times in, suc-cessiea or mi times at intervals. To-day's firing was at' oOCj'ds, 500 yds, and 600 yds, six shots at the; former and seven shots each at the latter two ranges, and the winner turned up in Volunteer F. Causley, with a. score of 78 points. The day was not a favourable one for good-shooting. SHOOTING MATCH AT PAEROA. [by TELEGRAPH.own CORRESPONDENT.] Pakroa, Saturday. A shooting match between the Wailii and Paeroa Volunteer Corps took place at the Paeroa Rifle Rango this afternoon, and a close contest resulted in a win for Paeroa by 18 points. The conditions were 10, men aside, 10 shots at each range, 500 yds and 600 yds. The following were the scores: — PAEROA.
