To-night Mr. Charles Bird, who recently retired from the position of captain of the Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade, after 35 years' service in the brigade, and Mr.'.Wm. Cooksey, late secretary of the same brigade, of which he had been a member for 35 years, were each presented with a purso of sovereigns.
