CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES.
A KESPEOTABiY-DEESSF.n man of middle age, ■ named A. Stafford Walker, was brought before the. stipendiary magistrate at th« Police Court yesterday on a charge that he did, at Devonporfc, on December 28 of last year, obtain the sum of £13 from one Win. Patterson by means of a certain false pretence, namely, a valueless cheque. < Accused was represented by Mr. i: Earl, who applied for ian adjournment till fMon; day next. He pointed out >to the • Court that after the circumstances of the case had •been briefly explained to Sub-Inspector ; Mitchell, > who appeared for. the * prosecution, that officer, he understood, offered no* ; v jection. • Mr. Earl further stated that the amount alleged to have been involved had . been returned to the prosecutor by his client prior to the present proceedings being instituted. .■■ . The remand was subsequently granted *;■■';._: asked for. _ ' • Bail was allowed accused in his own recognisance of £50. - .*
