CORRESPONDENT.] ,'i! . _ WELLINGTON, Tuesday. -/• j For the second day of.the bowling tournament the weather was windy, with. rain, falling in the morning, but before nine o'clock ■ it had changed: to a glorious day, and play . wad resumed on keen drawing greens. Auckland met with varying success, and won two games out of the three played. In the morning they met I'etone and won by five points. Towsey won by five points, and there was a tie in the other riulc. . i In the match against Napier Auckland were badly beaten, Yates' team recording 29 points . ; to Towsey's eight, whilst Gulp an ' against Evans finished even, the score being 17 all. K5 Auckland's third match of the day, which . ,y>; was against Gisborne, attracted a great crowd • , { of spectators, and was without doubt the .. most keenly contested game so far of the tournament. Towsey, playing against Cole- . man, made two bad drives which cost his team six points, but towards the close of the - ■ game he gave a grand exhibition of his drawing abilities on a keen green. The score was -.jl 20 all on the 20th head, and each bowl played saw a change in the head. • Hie . Gisborne players drove with deadly effect, but were worn down by the Auckland skip, who drew a beautiful shot, and won the game in the one rink by a point, amidst tremendous cheers. Culpan, playing against Ponsford, was within two points of his opponents on •v| the last head. In this head Gisborne was lying four, and Culpan wasted both his bowls in his efforts to make a dead heat. Newmarket's star was in the ascendant today,' and they defeated Hastings and Eeinuera and also had a- bye in one round. In tho ■ match against Hastings T.
