THE BOATING DISASTER IN THE BRISBANE RIVER.

We give the following particulars of the boating _ disaster in the Brisbane River: — It appears that the sailing boat Roxana, about 20ft or 22ft . long, left Wellington Point, about 19 miles from'-.Brisbane, on December • 26, with 14 on . board. The boat got about half-way to Tingalpa Creek, when she capsized. Mr, Payne, a Wesleyan minister, who was out in another; boat, picked up two of the men, named Henry Dark and E. Findlay, while later on three others were rescued by another boat, as'they were clinging to the keel of the capsized craft. Their names are: Bert Kennedy, William Fish, and W. Finney. The remainder, numbering nine, are supposed to have been , drowned. The names of the missing are: Armstrong, Marlow and three sons, W. M. Beard, George Harvey, the Rev. Mr. Dark, brother of Henry Dark; George Kennedy, brother of Bert Kennedy. Henry T. Dark, one of the survivors, interviewed at Wellington Point, stated: Calm •weather was experienced at the start, but after going about three miles the weather turned squally. The mainsail suddenly flew over to leeward, and the boat capsized; All hands succeeded in reaching the boat. Marlow's two youngest sons clung to him. Marlow then sank, his sons also being drowned. Armstrong lost his hold and cried out " Save me." I caught him, but ultimately I had to let him go. Another young fellow also lost his hold and became helpless. Some one struck out for shore. Jim Finney, Andrew Dark, and myself saw a tree drifting. We stripped and made for it, but before reaching it my brother said, "Save me." I replied, "I cannot," and Finney and myself reached the tree. I heard my brother crying out he was unable to roach lis. After being on the tree about an hour, Finney and myself were rescued by a sailing boat and taken to Wynnum, arriving there about half-past four p.m. . W. Fish is a little lad of 13 years. He was not expected to recover when rescued, but is nowpulling round.
