THE GOLD RETURNS.

TOTAL FOR THREE WEEKS, £59,960.

A RECORD YEAR.

The gold returns for the Auckland district for the past three . weeks amount to a total of £59,960 7s lOd, which is one of the highest periodical outputs recorded during the year. TI -: gross yield for 1901 to date now amount-3 to £696,724 9s 2d, an increase upon the previous recbrd output of 1899 (£641,150 14s sd) of £55.573 14s 9d. Compared with last year the total shows an excess of £61,690 9s lid, and these increases will be materially augmented by the inclusion of tie returns yet to come to hand. The past three weeks' output is made up as follows —Ohinemuri, £55,449 ss; Thames, £2255 7s 4d; Ccromandel, £2255 15s 6d: total, £59,960 7s lOd. WATHUI G.M. CO. Some very good news has been coming,to hand lately from the Waihni Gold Mining Company's mine in the Whangamata district. Work has been carried on steadily for several months, with very cheering results. Several reefs have been intersected, varying in size from 12iti to 6ft in width, and assaying from £3 16s 3d to £13 6s. Within the past week, in the crosscut going north, a reef sft wide has been intersected, which assays £7 per ton, while yet another reef has just been cut into about 20in, which gives promising prospects. A further shipment of 37 tons •of concentrates is being despatched from the Monowai mine to the Dapto Smelting Works. The parcel is the result of the crushing operations conducted during the past six weeks.
