KOMATA REEFS G.M. CO.

£1183 FROM 1210 TONS.

During the month ending December 7, the Kornata Reefs Gold Mining Company crushed and treated 1210 tous of ore for a return of bullion valued at £1135. This shows a slight improvement upon the previous return when 1230 tons yielded £1095. KAPOWAI G.M. CO. Tn the Kapowai Gold Mining Company's mine, at Gumtown. the low level has been extended a total distance of 50ft. Several formations have been passed through, but the manager does not think the main body of ore has been cut yet. All the formations referred to carry a little gold. BROKEN HILL G.M. CO. In the Broken Hill Gold Mining Company's mine, at Waiomo, the new- low level tunnel (No. 4) has been extended 511 ft in the Monowai ground, and at that distance is suspended. * Mr. E. F. Adams, surveyor has now been instructed to lay off a crosscut in the tunnel to be driven to cut the reef within the Broken Hill boundary. The new tunnel will in future be the outlet fur all quartz from the different levels, and give convenient access to the mine. RISING SUN G.M. CO. In the Rising Sun Gold _ Mining Company's mine, at Owharoa, No. 1 hangiugwali reef was tapped" in the crosscut last Friday. The lode was broken down on Saturday, and proved to be a solid bodv of quartz Ift wide, of very good duality. The foot wall reef is distant "about 9ft. or 4ft less than when cut in the main crosscut 100 ft further south. The other two reefs are ex- j pected to be in hand very soon. BONANZA CLAIM. [BY TELEGRAPH. — CORBKS.POXD7.N-T.] P.aeroa. Wednesday. A good deal of attention is at present being directed towards the Komata district, and there is every likelihood of this auriferous section of the peninsula receiving a thorough prospecting. Lately several moneyed enthusiasts have, visited the locality, more' particularly the Bonanza, and Byron Bay claims. With regard to the former it was visited a few davs ago by a well-known mining authority, who expressed to me the result of his visit as follows :—" I found the reef exposed for some 30ft in width, and I took three small parcels of scrapings from separate parts, merely a handful each, and on dish washing found in each lot a small streak of fine gold. It offers exceptional opportunities for working from the Komata Creek by a comparatively short tunnel, which- would give a practically unlimited ouantity of ore without any shaft sinking. I have a high opinion of the reef, as it certainly carries gold right through from side to side."

HAURAKI FREEHOLD. LIMITED. [r.T TELEGRAPH. OWN' CORBTOSPON'OENT.] Cobouas'del. Wednesday.

During the past three weeks a distance of | 60ft was driven on the western course of Xo. i i lode, at No. 1 level, in the Hauraki Freehold's property. For the greater portion of this distance the lode formation was little better than a band of clav. but it is now opening out again to a -defined bodv of quartz. The pass connecting No. 1 level with No. 2 level from the north shaft hasbeen completed, and driving has baen started on No. 2 lode at that level. This is a welldefined lode, and. with the exception of a small portion worked on tribute, is entirely intact throughout the company's property. HAURAKI G.M. CO. [BT TBLEGKAPTI. —OWN* CORRF3PONDEXT.J Coromandp.l, Wednesday. New development works have recently been undertaken in the Hauraki Gold Mining Company's mine, and after the Christmas holidays they will he further augmented. Work at the north end of the lode at the 500 ft level is being pushed ahead satisfactorily. Water is now effectually reduced. and a recurrence of the overpowering influx is not anticipated. To-day more specimen ore showing gold was brought to the surface from the west end of the lode. Present indications point to the presence of a large body of ore deeper down. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE.
