Van Oterondorp, arrived from San Francisco, Honolulu, and Pago Pago on November 12, anchoring in the harbour at 3.40 a.m. 'ITie steamer was visited shortly before 7, a.m.

by Dr. F. W Sharman, the port health officer, and Captain 11. Parker, of H.M. Customs, and after inspection was admitted to pratique, and berthed at Quay-street Jetty at 8 a.m., where the passengers and mails were at once disembarked and tho work of discharging cargo and taking in a supply of hunker coil proceeded with. The Sonoma has made the voyage in the excellent time of 17 days 15 hours and 58 min., including all detentions, the actual steaming time being 16 days 16 hours 11 miu. Had it not been for a slight accident to the machinery, and meeting with very heavy weather after leaving Pago Pago, the time occupied on the voyage would have been much shorter. Mr. G. A. Hodgson, the purser, to whom we are indebted for our files and despatches, reports: The Sonoma left Sun Francisco at 2.35 p.m., and cleared the Golden Gate at 3.20 p.m. on October 24, when the pilot was discharged. Met with strong head winds and sea for the first three days out, and arrived at Honolulu at 10.30 a.m. on the 30th. Resumed the voyage at 4 a.m. on the 31st, and met with fine weather on the run to Pago Pago, where the steamer arrived at 8 a.m. on November 6. Remained for three hours, and continued the voyage to Auckland. Strong head winds, increasing to a fresh gale, were encountered shortly after leaving the Pamoan port, continuing until making the New Zealand coast on November 11. The Sonoma left for Sydney shortly after 12 p.m. on November 12.
