THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.
[BT telegraph.—om CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. At the meeting of the Thrones Borough Coun- . cil this evening a letter was received from the •" \ Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, stating that the Minister for Publio Works could not comply with the Council's request for the placing of a Government engineer at its disposal to report on the best scheme to adopt for the drainage of the borough, owing to the large amount of work his Department had in hand. It was decided to hold c>>e letter over until the Minister for Mines visited ihe district, which,' it was stated, would bo about three weeks hence. A lengthy report war received from His Worship the Mayor (Mr. Trembath) and the town clerk (Mr. A. Bruce) re the system of ; uightsoil services in vogue In the city rf Auckland, and Parnell, Grey Lynn, anil Dcvonport Boroughs, which districts they recentlj visited at the request of the CouncilThe report was referred to the General Purposes Committee fo. consideration. Mr. H. Simmonds (foreman of works) and Mr. T. Jackson were appointed sanitary inspectors for the borough.
