AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD.

meeting of the Auckland College and Grammar School Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Sir G. M. O'Rorke I (chairman), and Messrs. L. J. lingnall, R. Fan-ell, S. Tibbs) wrote stating that the time had § .., arrived for the appointment of an additional master for the boys' side of the school. Ke pointed out that there was an increase on I the roll of 35 since the last appointment of an additional master in 1897, the number of I boys now being 240. He also added that a teacher of botany was required for the higher forms on the girls' eicie, and that it would bo a convenient arrangement if the Board could secure the services of a master j j v who could perform the work of an ordimry teacher and teacher of botany also. It was resolved, " That applications bo invited for an assistant master at a. salary of £150 per j : annum to commence with, or a master that j y could teach botany as required, at a salary I "•■ of £180 per annum." Mr. Dakin, 8.A., I B.Sc, now of the Napier High School, was | appointed as teachoi of modern languages ; at a salary of £225 pes annum, vice Mr. E. | * . G. Atkinson, M.A., resigned. It was re- !'■ solved, "That Mr. Dakin tolce up his new duties at the beginning of the next term." Laboratory: It was resolved to refit and resupply the school laboratory with chemi- ] cals, etc., and with new science benches on ! a pattern suggested by Professors Brown and | Howell. jj; Finance: Account* were passed for pay- | V ment amounting to £1106 13s 6d. Boardingschool Site: The Chairman reopened the question of procuring a suitable . site for a boarding establishment in connection with the school. Ho said the Auckland Grammar School was the only one in the colony without such an establishment, and he urged that such an acquisition would V increase the roll number.
