NEW WJTAU G.M. CO. The half-yearly meeting of shareholders in the New* Whan Gold Alining Company called for yesterday in the office of the legal manager (Mr. H. Gil Allan, jun.) lapsed for want of a quorum. The directors report stated that during the early part of the past six months work had been continued on the reefs above the Sons of Freedom lode, but without any improvement in the value of the ore. Tlie working expenses had in consequence be,en provided entirely from calls. As a result of the June call so many shares were absolutely forfeited that operations had to be suspended. Since then a little work had been done in the mine by tributers, but without any financial benefit to the company. The balance-sheet showed a credit of cash in hand amounting to £4-1 5s lid.

WAIHI CONSOLS G.M. CO. The half-yearly meeting of shareholders in the Wai'hi Consols Gold Mining Company was called for yesterday in the office of the legal manager {Mr. H. Gilfillan, jun.), but lapsed for want of a quorum. The directors' report stated that in accordance with the authority vested in them by shareholders a total 0f'45,797 forfeited shares had been applied for and allotted. Boring operations had had to be stopped owing to the hard ground encountered. In the meantime some prospecting work had ueen pioceeded with, pending arrangements being made for the hire of a diamond drill plant. The latter was now at the mine, and it was hoped it would soon be in steady operation in the direction of locating same of the reefs now being worked in the Waihi mine. The retiring directors were Messrs. W. Gome and A. Barnes, who, together with the auditor (Mr. 11. Cooper), offered themselves for re-election. The mine manager reported that during the year 220 ft of driving and 35ft of sinking had been done near the Martha Hill with poor results. Three bore-holes had also been put down, the first 280 ft, the second 80ft. and the third 90ft. Most of the boring had been in very hard rock. The balance-sheet showed a total expenditure for the half-year of £559 3s 9d. and receipts £902 15s" Bd, leaving a cash balance of £343 lis lid.

KTJRANUI G.M. CO. The Kuranui Gold Mining Company have had a portion of the underground workings in their mine at the Thames surveyed by Mr. Adams, with the result that it has been ascertained thlt the rihe on the leader from the low level is close to the tunnel level. The leader is about 10ft in the foot-wall of Hart's lode. From the strike of the two lodes they should junction about 20ft beyond the rise, and should make into a large lode. The present lead is about 20in wide, and is well mineralised, and in good country. Strong gold was met with at a recent breaking-down (samples of which are on view at the office of the legal manager, Mr. Clarke), and the prospect of meeting with rich stone past the rise is considered to be very good. The block available for working upon is a large one, there being 180Et o.i the line of reefs unworked, with SOft 0?. backs. When, the mine has been thoroughly ventilated by cleaning out and repairing the tunnel level from Hansen's crosscut to the top of the rise there will be every facility for opening up and working the block."
