AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET. There was a better feeling on the Exchange yesterday. In investment lines South British Insurances sold at 77s 6d, Hikurangi Coals at 8s 4d, and Milne and Choyce (preferential) at 235. In mining lines Monowais changed hands at 2s 9d, and Victorias at 3d. In Upper Thames lines Komata Reefs were done at and Is Id, sellers closing firm at Is 2d, with buyers at Is. Crowns were offered at 12s, with buyers at lis 6d. Waihis hardened to £6 10s sellers, buyers advancing to £6 ss. Grand Junctions were on offer at 365, buyers 33s 6d. Waitekauris were wanted at 9s, sellers lis 3d. In other limes late prices ruled.
[ PROGRESS-CASTLE ROCK G.M. CO. The bottom level drive north on Reynolds' reef in the Progress- Castle Rock Gold Mining Company's mine has been extended 18ft from the starting point. The disturbed rock formation is getting more solid in the face of the drive, and a good class of sandstone is now making. No reef has been taken down during the past week. The fifth stope has been extended 20ft from the junction. The reef varies in size uf) to 9in, and looks very promising, showing gold occasionally when breaking down the ore. GLOUCESTER EXTENDED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT ] Thames, Thursday. Messrs. Hill and party, tributers in the Gloucester Extended mine, secured Boa 3dwt of melted gold from a crushing of one load of general ore and a few pounds of picked stone. The gold was valued at £24 9s. Blanch Brain has been appointed to superintend and carry out this company's boring operation* on the foreshore, and is attending to preliminary matters before commencing operations.
