PUBLIC-HOUSE REFORM.
-o—_ ELIMINATION OF PRIVATE PROFIT. RESOLUTIONS BY THE DUNEDIN ANGLICAN SYNOD. [BY telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Wednesday. The following resolutions were passed at the Anglican Synod to-inight:— "That in the opinion of this Synod the retail traffic in alcoholic liquors as at present conducted is in many respects unsatisfactory." 2. " That tho total prohibition of alcoholic liquors in the colony is irrational, and likely to cause mc. harm than good." 3. "That the- time has arrived when those who are interested in temperance reform on moderate lines should have a common platform upon which to combine ; and that the transfer of all profit from the retailer to the State or municipality seems to be the best method yet suggested for accomplishing such reform." 4. "That a league with the obje:t of educating public opinion in the direction of reform on the above lines be formed, with branches in all parts of the colony." i
