THE COMMONWEALTH HOTEL CASE.

[BV TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Wednesday. The hearing of a motion for a writ of certiorari to quash the Commonwealth Hotel license on the grounds that the magistrate who is the licensing authority (1) having promised that the license would be granted, (2) being undei a pecuniary obligation to the person interested in the grant of the license, (3) predetermination and bias, (4) reasonable ground of apprehension of bias, came before Mr. Justice Conolly in banco to-day. Mr. A. 11. Atkinson appeared for the applicant, and Messrs. C. P. Skerrett and T. 8. Weston for the licensee (Mr. O'Driscoll). Mr. Atkinson occupied the whole day with his argument, and the case was adjourned till to-morrow, when Mr. Skerrett will address the Court. Mr. Justice Conolly strongly condemned some of the allegations contained in the second ground of the motion.
