A deputation from the Rating on Unimproved Values Committee, consisting of Messrs. J. C. Macky, K. Tudchope, and T. Webb, waited on His Worship the Mayor (Dr. J. L. Campbell) on July 9 forenoon, and presented a petition signed by some 900 ratepayers, asking for a poll of the ratepayers at as early a date as possible on - the question of adopting the .rating on unimproved values in the city. Of the signatures attached 812 were those of ratepayers on the new roll, 740 only being necessary to ensure a poll being taken. The Mayor said that as soon as the names of the ratepayers iiad been authenticated, and other preliminaries attended to, the poll would be taken. . .
