CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
r " Tra hearing of the charge against John. Gillespie, of assaulting Charles Bellet, was continued before Mr. H. "W. Brabant, S.M., at /■ib Police Court yesterday afternoon. ChiefYDetecrive Grace prosecuted, and Mr. J. R. Landon appeared for the accused, '- 'Percy Hicks * arid Andrew Harris corrc- - lorated the greater portion of Alex. Morris' , evidence, that , appeared in the Herald of Tuesday, but they stated that while the two men,-were-maltreating Bellet near St. James' •C'Qurch, the accused was'talking to witness and Harris some distance away. Harris alsostated that ho had worked with the accused for several years, and during that time ho iid never found him to be of a quarrelsomedisposition. • Charles Bellet, the person assaulted, .was recalled, and. through an interpreter went over the whole of his statement given in his 'evidence on Monday.
