[]!Y TELKRKAPII. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington', Thursday. At the Masterton District Court yesterday Emily Regan, of Featherston, was acquitted on a charge of perjury. The students of the Victoria College win passed the recent degree examinations received their diplomas yesterday afternoon at a graduation ceremony, held in the ball of the Technical School. The undergraduates were present in full force, and added variety to the proceedings by performances on a big drum, mouth organ, and similar discordant instruments. Sir James Hector presided, and there was a large gathering of univeisity professors and the public. Wanganui, Thursday. A sitting of the Compensation Court was held here, before Mr. Justice Edwards, with Mr. McKerrow as assessor for the Crown, and Mr. McLean, as assessor for the lessees, to determine the amount of compensation payable to Messrs. Moore Brothers, in respect" of a lease of a block of land at the mouth of the Kai-iwi Stream, which was taken possession of by the Government. Mr. Marshall (Wanganui) appeared for the lessees, Dr. Findlay for the Crown, whilst Mr. Com (Wanganui) watched the case on behalf of the native vendor. The case is likely to last till Friday or Saturday. In the appeal case. Faber v. the Police, ! judgment was reserved. CiiKisTciiuKCH, Thursday. William Wit-hell, a. young man, 21 years of age, a painter, fell through the trap-door of a building in course of demolition yesterday morning, and sustained severe concussion of the brain. He was taken to the hospital unconscious, and is not expected to recover. .
