I-cgan C.tmnl'oiy and Messrs. A. Kick! and 0. J. Parr. Loan of Pictures: His Worship the Mayor (Dr. .1. Logan Campbell) wrote offering to lend to ;he city Art Gallery two cases of picture-; 10 had received from Italy. The offer was received with thank.-. The Inception Platform: .Mrs. Maud Cueth, one < t the shopkeepers in front, of whose premie, the reception platform in connection with die ftoyal vi.-it was erected, wrote asking lor Mime consideration, in view of '''" damage done thereby to her business. The Council decided to accept no responsibility, as the platform was erected by the Government. ThoXiholupu Fatality: Mrs M. A. Fulton, the widow of the contractor recently killed by a fall ot earth at Xihotupu, asked that her late husband's contract might ho determined, as she had no means of carrying it on. .She further asked fo, payment fo'.Iho work completed, and for the return of deposits on the contracts. The Council decided to send the letter on to the Streets Committee, with power to act. Mr. Human sua he hoped the committee would consider the special circumstances, and be as lenient as possible.

Eden Terrace Drainage: The Eden Terrace Lead Hoard forwarded an application that the Council should complete the sewer now ending at Suffolk-street. The la'tec would therefore remain on the sides of the road but a short tune. The matter was referred to the streets Committee, with power to act. The following recommendation of tho Streets Committee was adopted :-" Auckland Electrie tramways Company (Limited), submitting plate, and spooiencations for constructing tram- inc. College Hill and Beach Road sections, to .it boundary: The engineer, having reported that the plans and specifications arc satisfactory, the committee recommend the works bo allowed to proceed." Tho Legal Committee's recommendation, as under, was adopted:_" Auckland Electric tramway; Company (Limited), re timefables: Reply to be sent, to the Tram Company in accordance with the traffic inspector's report, namely, that hi.- inquiry has shown the trams to be quit > as faulty in observing their starting times; the traffic inspector to report why action has not been taken m such cases." Legal Committee: The following recommendations of the Legal Committee "were adopted.--,! Martin submitting specimen., of photographs of Library and Art Gallery for placing on heard mail .steamers Recommend that half-a-dozen copies be obtained at. cost: of 12s 6d each. Board of Advice (tree Library) suggesting the employment of a catalogue clerk.: Your committee recommend the employment of a cataloguing clerk for one year, at a salary of £200; anphcatous to be invited. Women's Christian lercperanre Union, as to the overcrowding of buses: The. traffic inspector to recommend the appointing .of stopping-places throughout the city. Auckland Harbour .boarc, as t 0 the maintenance of road at eutraice to the Railway Wharf: Reply in accordance with the engineer's report, that the roadway from the Freezing Company's premies to the Railway Wharf should be mam,, by the Harbour Board. Town clerk, J arnoll, submitting account for firemen ? service, at fire in Stanley-street: Reply tout Council does not consider it is liable for tho calling out of the Parnell brigade.

. Students at tho Art Gallery: Tbo following rule; for the guidance of students copying pictures at the Art Gallery, drawn tip by the Board of Advice, were adopted: — 1. Iho gallery shall be open for students desirous of making studies of works of art Horn ten a.m. to half-past two p.m. a ach day the gallery is open to the public Sundays excepted. 2 Any person desirous of ft tidying in the gallery must cither produce a letter of recommendation from a. -ecogniseu local artist as to ability, or produce for tho information of the Board of advice a signed specimen of his or her work, when if deemed satisfactory, an order "or Permission will be issued for 12 months, revocable at the pleasure of the Board. ' Application must be made to tho secretary. 3. Students wishing to make complete copies of the works of local artists must produce in writing tho consent of such artist, and obtain special permission of the Board. 4. 411 studies must be stamped by the attendant before being finally taken rom the gallery, and any infringement of tins rule by the student will cause (lie forcittire of permission to study in the gallery 5. Studies from loan pictures shall no,, be made unless permission in writing from the owne. be first produced. 6. Each student must provide himself or herself with a piece, of black American cloth to protect the gallery floor, size to bo not less than one yard square. 7. Not more than one student shall copy a picture at the same time-. 8. No picture shall be removed horn the walls tor students without the permission of the Board. 9. The caretaker shall keep a record, in a book providec for the purpose, of all works copied, names of students copying, date of inception and completion.

lire Brigade Matters: The following report of the Legal Committee was adopted: —J.'ire Underwriters' Association, as to installation of new system of fire alarms and the erection of firebcll in East Ward : Your committee recommend that the firebell be erected at the foot of Princes-street, adjacent to the reserve. J. Dawson, as to tie installation of new system of fire-alarms Mr. Dawson to bo asked for an estimate of the probable cost of a new system of firealarms. Superintendent Gladding, reporting on reorganisation and requirements of fire brigade: Resolved that this committee is of opinion that a very large expenditure tor stations, electric alarm system, new fireengine, and horses, and othoi appliances in accordance with the report of the superintendent, is immediately necessary and le commends that the Finance Committee be directed to at once take steps to consider and submit a scheme to find the necessary money on the basis! of the superintendent's report. .Designs foi fire station: Superintendent Hugo, of Wellington, has beerl asked, and lias agreed to come to Auckland and report on the whole fire brigade niieation. Grafton Ward: The following report from the finance Committee was adopted:—Re Grafton Ward members' report as to works in Grafton Ward: Your committee recommend that Dundonald-street kerbing and channelling be done at a cost of £19 9,; that Winchester-street formation be done at a cost of £11 Is: and that the kerbing and channelling of West. Burleigh, Sussex, and Suffolk Streets stand over in the mean- : line.
