THE RECEPTION SURPLUS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Allom is doubtless within his right as a member of the Grey Statue Committee in pleading for a small portion of any surplus that is loft from the reception funds. There are, however, so many pressing calls for aid among the various charitable and benevolent institutions whose support will meet the approval of all contributors to the reception fund that T cannot doubt they will receive a prior consideration. It must be remembered that many who contributed to this fund may not be in sympathy with this particular memorial, and would never have contributed had they known any surplus would be so spent. On the other hand, there can be no doubt that no one will object to the money going as beforo mentioned.—l cm, etc., T. Baknaby, Jus. Kiugsland, June 25, 1901.
