Zealand and River Plates were done at 19s, ! more being looked for at 18s 6d, without ! seller,*, Taupiri Coals changed hands at 17s ; j lid and 13s 2d, late sellers asking 18s 3d, ! with buyers at 17s 6d. For Batik of New 1 j Ze.dy.nds there was steady demand at 495, !no sellers quoting. In mining lines there ' was little variation from late rates, and no ' business was done. I AUSTRALIAN GOLD OUTPUT. j The gold output of four of the principal ! Australian States for May gives a total of j 290,4430z, as compared with 286,0120z for j the previous month, showing a decrease of | 5431(«. The West Australian production ; was 144,0860z, as against 120,3120z for ; May, 1900, and 114.6240z for the same ' period in 1899. The Queensland output toi tailed 68,8470z. us against 101,2330z for I May, 1900, and 87.7220z for 1899. The j Victorian output shows 60,4780z. contrasted j with 71,6440z for 19C0. and 67,7960z for j 1899. New South Wales contributed i 17,0320z, as against 16,C000z for 1900,' and j 14,6260z for 1899. The total output for the I first five months of the year amounts to I 1,401,2620z, a decrease upon the total for the si. me period of last year of 52,3840z.
