WHAT AUCKLAND MTGHT SHOW.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As H.R.IT. the Duke of Cornwall is now visiting the different colonies, there is no doubt lie wilt wish to ho kept well informed on all points of interest, so that when he returns to tho Mother Country he can get them to adopt tho latest improvements. T would, suggest thai as Auckland is the premie.' city of New Zealand, the following might have been presented to him:-
1. An exhibition bv the Auckland Fire Brigade showing their apr)li?nces (as furnished by the City Council) for extinguishing' fires, to bo followed by a fountain display of 1001 jets of water from their sound hoses. This would be unique. 2. A deputation from the licensing committees to show how carefully all hotel fire escapes are examined before granting licenses.
3. A deputation from the City Council to explain their method of providing Auckland with water and how the city is paved and swept. 4. A deputation from the Auckland Harbour Board to show their wonderful facilities for receiving cargo and how the wharf traffic is regulated. 5. A deputation from the. police to show how sly grog-sell convictions are obtained and how " drunks" are taken through the streets to the cells.
6. A combined deputation of doctors, lawyers and architects of Auckland to prove their corps d'esprit and how they love one another.
7. A. deputation from the Hospital and Charitable Aid. Board to show their utter incapacity for business: and last, but not least, a midnight parade of tho Auckland Sanitary Company with their special carts and men to illustrate how Auckland at night is made hideous and foul.—l am, etc., Advance At/okiand.
