TO THE EDITOIi. 'Sir,— correspondent "Counsellor" complains that the letter of 11. R. Cooke had not been replied to on the above subjeer, and thinks that it ought to have been. ell, that is, of course, a matter of opinion. I thought myself at first that it would be well in do so, but after further consideration considered it hardly worthy of a reply, until your correspondent again urged it, for evidently lie was simply the mouthpiece of someone else, and was not writing from persona! knowledge of the subject. fn the hist place, if I mistake not, he said that we could only get 1,500,000 gallons from Xihotupu in summer, and as we wanted much more than that, it was folly to go for that quantity. Wilson aid Carlaw. who gauged the stream, that I here was flowing from Xiliotupii at the point from which it is to be taken foi the city 2.300,000 gallons, or 800,000 more than Mr. Cooke i-llows for. Besides this, there are the intermediate streams between Nihottipu ami Titivangi, which will augment the above considerably, and. beyond all this, there are the 4.000,000 gallons which Mr. Wilson, the engineer, declares can be brought by gravitation to the point at Xiliotupii from which the supply to the city i- taken.
