THE PROPOSED MAORI DISPLAY IN AUCKLAND.
No definite.decision has yet been arrived at with regard to the proposed repetition of the Rotorua Maori display in Auckland. Tim Royal Reception Commissioners were under the impression that 700 natives were coming down yesterday, accompanied by the Hon. James Carroll. They, however, received a telegram from Mr. Carroll, stating that he had received a Royal " command'' to pit ::eed at once to Wellington, and. he came down by the Rotorua train yesterday, got off at the Penrose Junction, and left by the Ngapuhi for Wellington. The Royal Commissioners telegraphed to the Premier last night, to let, him know the slate of the case, and asking him what should be done under the circumstances. Was the Maori demonstration to go on, on which the citizens had set their hearts, or otherwise? A large number of the Maoris are understood to be favourably disposed to the proposal if satisfactory accommodation is provided for them while in Auckland. A special train arrived from Rotorua early this morning, bringing down about 700 of the Northern and East Coast natives, who were put up in the meantime in Messrs.
