Hampton Court Palace, the home of the widows of so many of the Empire's gallant sons who have died gloriously on the field, has just received a new edition to its residents in the person of Mrs. Creigliton, the widow of the late Bishop of London. The pleasant suite of rooms which have been given to Mrs.' Creighton were for many years occupied by Lady Georgina Grey, and were vacant for some time prior to the death of the Queen. . There was, as usual, a long list of applicants for the rooms, but for some unexplained reason the suite was not given to anyone by Her late Majesty, and one of the first acts of King Edward was to offer the suite to the late bishop's widow. The apartments at Hampton Court are all very different in size and in convenience, but those now placed at Mrs. Creighton's disposal are among the best in the palace, having a pleasant outlook upon the garden. His Majesty's kindly act is greatly appreciated by all the countless admirers of the dead bishop, and of his equally revered widow. Mrs. Creighton spared neither time nor energy in her endeavours to assist her devoted husband in carrying out the terribly onerous duties of his post, and it is an open secret that not only the bishop's official income, but his private fortune also, were sacrificed to the cause he held so dear, with the result that his widow has been left with but slender means. It is quite unusual for the widow of a bishop to be offered a residence either at Kensington or at Hampton Court, but the honour has never been more fittingly oestowed. The premises of the Tonson Garlick Coy. will be open till six p.m. Saturday, April 6. Smith and Caiichey's establishment will be open on Saturday until half-past nine p.m. Tenders are invited 'by the Harbour Board for hull of firefloat, and tug, and for construction of iron buoys. i ; Special line in brass-rail bedsteads, now selling at 37a 6d, spot cash.
