[by TELEGRAPH.— association.] New Plymouth, Monday. Mr. Dockrill, the present Mayor, consented this morning to contest the election again. The only other candidate yet in the field is Mr. Richard Cock.
On Saturday the local branch of the Carpenters and Joiners'. Amalgamated Society was formed, delegates from Auckland attending.
Gisbobne, Monday. Some boys were playing with an air-gun, when a lad named Hicks was shot in the, eye. He may lose the sight of the injured eye.
Wellington, Monday. Tryphena Dyer, 21 years of age, died at Otaki Hospital, of gastro-enteritis. It is believed that death was caused by eating brawn.
' Oamaku, Monday.. John McCormick, of Hampden, charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with incest on his own daughter, was remanded for eight days. Bail was refused.
Dtjnemn, Monday. At the inquest on the body of Joseph James, killed at the Stuart-street crossing, a verdict was returned of suicide whilst in a state of temporary insanity. Blenheim, Monday. At the Hibernian Society's sports to-day the Grand Handicap was won by Evans, of Wellington, Somers, of Hastings, being second. The Half-mile was won by Pack, of Wellington.
CriEiSTOHURCn:, Monday. . William Hoey, chief cook of the Rotorua, died suddenly on the vessel at Wellington on Saturday afternoon. He was at one time cook on the Lyttelton steamer Cygnet, and before that was second cook on the Rotoinakana.
