Captain* J. C. Felgate is in command of the Tv&er liner Mimiro, now on the voyage from "London to Australia and New Zealand. Mr. D. G. Fraser, of Wairoa, has fc?en appointed engineer tc the Cook County Council. There were applicants from all parts of the colony. Mr. Jackson Palmer, who has been in Wellington interviewing Ministers regarding the moneys voted last session for his district, left for Auckland yesterday. Mr. C. McAffer, the Australian mile champion walker, was tendered a smoke concert at the Rising Sun Hotel on Thursday night. Mr. F. H. Creamer presided. He was presented with a travelling trunk on his departure for Wellington, and his health was heartily drunk. Mr. De Latour, who arrived from Eng- ' land last yeai to take up the duties of curator of the fish ponds at Masterton, has carried out his duties so satisfactorily that the Wellington Acclimatisation Society 'i: ( decided to renew his engagement for r. further term of 12 months. Mr. L. G. S. Brodie, for years on the staff of the Auckland railway station, and latterly of Helensville, having been promoted, proceeded South yesterday afternoon to take charge of Morven station, in South Canterbury. He will be missed in aquatic circles, having been a prominent yachtsman and oarsman for many years, an active member of the Auckland Rowing Club, and at one time deputy captain of the club.
