OTAGO AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
[by telegraph.—PßESS association.] Dunk din", Thursday. The Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Metropolitan Show was commenced to-day. The weather was fine except for one shower late in the afternoon. The show was on much the usual lines, cattle and sheep only being judged to-day. Pigs, which are a line tlass, were also to have been judged, but through some misunderstanding the judge did not turn up. There is an increase in entries compared with last year. Cattle and sheep show a slight falling off, but horses a large increase. Murray Roberts and Co.'s imported cattle were much admired. The championships fell as follows : —Shorthorn cattle : Bull, J. Gow; cow, J. W. Blair. Polled angus, Murray Roberts and Co., for bull and cow. Ayrshire : Bull, R. Ireland ; cow, Mrs. K. B. Fergusson. Alderneys or Jersey : Bull, P. Hellyer ; cow, James Hooper. Sheep Fine-combing Merino : Ram, Watson Shennan ; ewe, K. M. Turnbull ; strong combing, Watson Shennan for both ram and ewe. Border Leicester: Ram, Little Bros. ; ewe, J. S. Holmes-. English Leicester: Ram and ewe, A. Murdoch. Lincoln : Ram, New Zealand and Australian Land Company ; ewe, J. S. Holmes. Romney Marsh: Ram, Bealy Bros. ; ewe, J. and J. Millar. Shropshire : Ram, Aitken and Seth-Smith ; ewe, Little Bros. Inbred halfbred :J. Stringfellow, ram and ewe. Championship for most points in sheep, Watson Shennan. Horses will be judged to-morrow.
