OHINEMURI.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.! Paeroa, Thursday. The monthly meeting of tho Ohinemuri County Council was resumed after tea last: night, when the following business was transacted : —

Sir. G. Davey, managor or tho Waitekauri Gold Mining Company, urged the necessity of a dray road being made, branching from the Jubilee, old Waitekauri, and Waitekauri United Road, to tho Queen level of the Waitekati-i Company's ground. Tho length of road required was about 13 chain?, and easy of formation. It was decided thai tenders be called, returnable at next meeting. A number of residents and propertyholders in and around the vicinity of Victoriastreet and Victoria-street South, Waihi, asked to have the said streets formed and metalled. Deferred till members visited Waihi on Wednesday next. An application made by J. Farmer and others for the icmoval of a mound of earth in the upper portion of the main-street at Waihi was similarly dealt with. / A number of stonebreakers asked for an increase in the price of broken metal from 2a 9d to 3s per yard. Left in the hands of the engineer. L. Boden asked that the road up Tarareko Creek bo repaired. Engineer to report as next meeting. Mr. G. Power requested the Council to tako into consideration the matter of bringing the footpath in Kenny-street, Waihi, down to its permanent level. Engineer to report. An application made by the New Zealand Crown Mines for permission to mine under tho road at Ivarangahako was granted under the usual conditions, viz., that mining be not carried on within 50ft of the surface. On the motion of Mr. Stackpolo, it was resolved that two culverts be constructed on the Karangahake Hill track, near the Talisman Consolidated Company's No. 7 level. Mr. A. W. Ellis, secretary of the Karangahake Fire Brigade, asked for certain alterations to the fire engine shod, so that it could bo used for a reading and a meeting-room. Deferred until 'he councillors visited Karangahake.

Residents of Haszard-street, Waihi, asked that the footpaths and road bo graded, in view of tho erection of so many important buildings. Adjourned until the Council visited Waihi. The question of enforcing a by-lay, making it compulsory on the part of owners of vehicles to increase the width of tires on their waggons, ctc., was further adjourned for a month. 1

WAIKATO. The annual meeting of tho above was held on Wednesday Present: Messrs. Primrose, feeddon, Wheeler, Thomas and Bailey. Mr. Primrose was unanimously re-elected chairman, a position ho has held for many years. Messrs. Bailey, Primrose and Thomas were elected representatives of tho Council on the Hospital Board. Mr. Tattley again wrote asking that the bridge over the Whangamarino stream might bo raised 2ft 6m., At present there was only sft 6in between! the water level and the bridge. He pointed out that when tho mine was working previously they had a railway siding above the bridge; now tho only means of getting to the markets was by the Waikato River. " Mr. , ? ye '. the owner of a steam launch, which he intended using ok. the creek for taking up stores and bringing down coal,. also wrote. Both correspondents pointed out that the piles of the old bridge impeded navigation. The Chairman said the question was a large one, and he thought if they had to undertake tho, work for one or two individuals, they should contribute largely. It was finally arranged, "That Mr. •Tames Stewart, C.E., who had erected the bridge, be instructed to inspect and report on the matter." It was decided to co-oper-ate with other public bodies in the endeavour to induce the Government to reopen, the stone quarry at Taupiri. The clerk read tho usual statement of balances as follows Kirikiriroa, credit, £199 Is lid; Cam. bridge, debit, £51 Is; Tamahere, credit. £42 6s 8d; Huntly. credit, £233 3s 8d; Whangamarino, credit, 9s lid; Model Farm account. debit, £789 15s lid. Tho clerk reported that the receipts were since October 1 £513 18s 9d, and the expenditure £159 13s 6d, leaving a debit balance of £365 14s 9d. The dog-tax for 1901 was fixed at 5s and 2s 6d for each dog, and the same registrars were reappointed. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for a supply of , collars. After passing several accounts for payment, the Council rose.
