SUPREME COURT.—Criminal Sittings.' Tub criminal sittings at the Supreme Court were resumed before His Honor Mr. Justice Conolly yesterday morning. PERJURY CASES. Mary Katherine Lock, who was convicted by a jury on Tuesday last of having committed perjury at the Police Court, Auckland, on September 22 last, was sentenced by His Honor to six months' imprisonment. 110 also informed accused, that but for'the recommendation to mercy which the jury had submitted to him, the sentence would have been longer. Nettio May Andrews, who, under the pro-, visions of the new Act, pleaded guilty to the theft of a postal letter, was admitted to probation for six calendar months. In answer to an indictment that on August 27, 1900, he did bodily harm to Harry Good© Holland, Herbert Mann pleaded not guilty. O'Meagher appearing for the defence. The' jury, after a short retiral, returned a verdict. of not guilty. Prisoner was therefore acquitted. POLICE COURT NEWS. Messrs. Henry Wilding and J. Callnan, J.P.'s, presided at the Police Court yesterday. Wilful Damage : Hugh Craig pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking a pane of glass, valuod at 15s, the porporty of William Croshor. Sub-Inspector Wilson said the man had since paid for the damage. A fine of ss, and costs 9s, was inflicted. Adjourned: Robert Arthur Bodlo was charged with obstructing the footpath in Queen-street. On tho application of Mr. Hanna an adjournment was granted till the sth prox. A charge against John Malono, of using threatening language towards A. B. Thompson, at Panmure, was also adjourned for a week. Theft: Three lads, named respectively William Lockwood, William Harvey, and Victor Southwell, admitted stealing an oa., valued «lit (is, the property of Rober* Notton. Assault: Robert William Lowe pleadod guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife, Minnie Lowe, by catching hoi by the throat end striking her. Accused said the whole trouble arose over a lodger in his house, and '.hat ho had received great provocation. A fine of 20s, and cost*, 3s, was imposed, in default seven days' imprisonment. Accused was also ordered to find a surety of £10, to keep the peace for six months. Breaking and Entering: John James Dover was charged with breaking and entering the shop of Charles Robert Ixivatt and stealing two saws, one square, and a gauge, valued at 20s, the property of Frank Castle. ChiefDetective Grace prosecuted. The evidence alleged that the prisoner had broken into the prosecutor's shop in Albert-street, and stolon the goods, and afterwards sold them to a second-hand dealer in Victoria-street for tho sum of 3s. On being charged, prisoner pleaded guilty, and was committed for trial. (Before Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M.) Committed For Trial: William Hughes was charged with having in or about the month of April last, forged the name ol 0. Nicholls to an order for a supply of calendars, and causing Percy Spencer to act on the same as if it were genuine. Evidence was given in support of tho charge by Detective McHveney, Cyprian Nicholls, Mrs. Nicholls, and the informant. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed to take hi? trial at the next -riminal sessions. Bail wa«, not applied lor. A second charge of stealing the sum of 6s from Ernest Gilbert Skoates, by fraudulently failing to account for the same to PercySpencer, was withdrawn. Mr. P. F. Battlcy appeared for the prosecution.
