CHARGE OF MURDER.

[by telegraph— TT\vm "DOTATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. At the trial of Mary Henderson, evidence was given by the mother of the dead girl to the effect that she had taken the latter to see the prisoner, and paid her for performing a certain operation. A girl, 18 years of age. who had come from Napier, also gave evidence, she having been found in the house when the woman was arrested. Her evidence, which was given after an assurance from the Crown that she would not be prosecuted, went to show that she had been subjected to certain treatment of a similar kind. His Honor, in summing up, explained that a. verdict 01 manslaughter could be returned if the jury thought prisoner had not known, and could not reasonably have expected that her act would cause death. The jury failed to agree, and has been discharged. A new trial will probably take place next week.
