DISTRICT SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l think that something ought to be done about the granting of extra holidays to the district schools. The school committees do not seem to know tho regulations regarding them, and the Board of Education issue ambiguous notices which can bo read any way tho committees like. The Board issued a notice on November 16, as follows: — "Subject to the regulations, Friday, November 23, may be observed as a holiday in the public schools, etc." Some committees granted a holiday, which was clearly contrary to the regulations, because the regulations provide that a holiday may be granted on "any public holiday," and Friday was not a " public holiday." Some committees saw this, and did not grant a holiday. The committees ought to observe tho regulations, and the Board ought to issue clear and decided notices, or bo silent. It is a. question if Friday should have been a holiday, considering that the flower show was open on Saturday, and that the previous Friday was show day and the Friday before the Prime of Wales' Birthday. It is to be expected that children will desire to get all the holidays they can, but the teachers should not evince such a keen desire for them, and the commit tes and the Education Board ought to look at them in a sensible manner.—l am, etc., A Parent.
