THE LATE REV. E. BEST.
An in memoriam service was held on Sunday evening at Bayfield Church for the late Rev. E. Best. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. S. Rishworlh, of Devonport, who preached an eloquent sermon from Rev. xiii. 14, after which he spoke of an acquaintance with the deceased clergyman of upwards of 40 years, noting specially his intense earnestness in his work of preaching right up to the last, and the amiability of his character. A letter of condolence to the widow and family from the Bayfield congregation was also read. Hymns appropriate to the occasion were sung, and the " Dead March" in " Saul" was played by the church organist (Mi. 11. H. Horsley) at the conclusion of the sermon.
