Tub Minister for Justice has received a petition from Chrisfcchurch asking that Mrs. Long, sentenced by justices to 14 days' imprisonment for ill-treating her step-children, should be released on her own recognisances pending an application to the Governor that the sentence be remitted. The Minister replied that this could not be done, but he has instructed Mr. Beetham, S.M., to report fully on the case after consultation with the justices.
