INDUSTRIAL ARBITRATION BILL IN N.S.W.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. Sydney, November 23. Thk Legislative Council ha? rejected the Industrial Arbitration Bill by a majority of 15. Quotations from New Zealand's experiences figured largely in the debate. Dr. MacLaurin quoted letters which, he had received from Mr. P. G. Ewington, of Auckland, in which he declared that the Act had worked so much mischief in New Zealand that it had been repeatedly amended. The law, he added, worked vexatiously, and to the prejudice of trade, and was a symbol of perpetual industrial war. It had also been used Us an instrument of political patronage to laboui and of defiance to capital, defeated Parliamentary candidates being consoled with seats on the Conciliation Boards. He also quoted the New Zealand Hbkald, and the pronouncements of Mr. MacGregor, of the New Zealand Legislative Council. Sir Wm. Lyne informed the House this morning that the Government would shortly discuss the position.
