UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of the Council of ♦ho Auckland University College was held <n the College Council room yesterday afternoon. The following were present: Sir G. Maurice O'Rorke (chairman), His Lordship Bishop Cowie, Messrs. D. Goldie, T. U. Wells, G. Peacocke, Jackson Palmer, and Dr. Maclaurin. University Income: The chairman said ho regretted that no further increase of income had been provided for by Government during the past year. Ho stated that the Government had considered that the Victoria College and Canterbury College were in more need of increase than the Auckland University College. Grey Scholarship: Mr. A. R. Crump was. in accordance with the report of the examiners, declared the winner of the Grey icholarship for the oresent year. The examiners stated that Mr. Crump's papers had attained a very hish standard of excellence. Premium Awards: The premiums for the past year were, a? recommended by the Professorial Hoard, awarded as follow?:—Litvi, Miss Ethel M. Mcintosh and Mr. Cecil Hull equal; English. Mr. E. de C. Clark; pure mathematics, Mr. C. J. A. Griffin; applied mathematics, Mr. C. .T. A. Griffin; chemistry, Mr. L. V. Halliwell; physics. Mr. 0. G. Aickin; biolosry, Mr. G. B. Stephenson; treologv, Mr. F. C. Long; French. Mr. V. S. Ardern: jurisprudence, Mr. L. V. Hnlliwell: and history and political economy, Mr. E. K. Mules. Finance: Accounts amounting to £471 63 Id were passed for payment. Included in this was the sum of £92 lis Id, expenses incurred in the selection and bringing 10 the colony of the lecturer, Dr. W. E. Thomas, half of which amount is payable by tho Auck(and Choral Society.
