FRUIT FLIES FROM RAROTONGA

Captain Brot/n, Government Entomologist, condemned on Monday morning a consignment of oranges from Rarotonga. The fruit was brought by the s.s. Ovalau lastSaturday, and the fruit-fly maggots were shown to the importer himself on the spot, as well as to representatives from the firms of Messrs. Donald and Edenborough, Aitken and Co., as well as others, who were present during the inspection. This appears to be the third occasion on which Captain Broun has ordered oranges from Rarotonga to be destroyed by fire.
