The Rev. T. A. Cato, of Wairoa, has accepted the charge of the Opotiki parish. Captain Wheeler returned from the Eastern Pacific by the Ovalau on Saturday. Captain G. McDonald, of the s.s. Rakanoa, left for Dunedin on Saturday by the Te Anau.

Australia, was recently selected as one of the goldfields' delegates to attend a representative meeting of all parts of Australia, to be held at Sydney, having reference to the new postal and telegraphic arrangements under the new Imperial Federation.

Mr. Fred W. Duval, the popular advance representative for Pollard's Opera Company, is about to sever his connection with this organisation, after an engagement extending over eight years. He has accepted the position. of general manager for Mr. P. R. Dix, and will from Monday next have sole charge of this gentleman's New Zealand enterprises. Mr. Duval is extremely popular and energetic, and Mr. Dix is to be congratulated on making a capital engagement. Information has just been received in Auckland that Constable Donald Gordon, of Motherwell, Scotland, a nephew of Mr. John Gordon, of the Woodlands Estate, and jf Mr. Alexandei Gordon, of Avondale Asylum, has been appointed to the post of Highland attendant to the Queen. Constable Gordon, who is 28 years of age, has been for the past four years in the Lanarkshire Constabulary, but was previously, for a considerable time, mounted messenger to the Queen. He is a native of tire Balmoral district, his father having been in the (?neen's service for a long period of years.
