NORTH ISLAND RAILWAY LEAGUE.
•A ; hebtiso of the Auckland North Island Main Trunk Railway League was held at the office of the secretary at two p.m. yesterday (Friday) for the purpose of receiving and passing accounts and appointing a new treasurer in place of Mr. Kirker. The following is the balance-sheet presented: — Amount collected, £220 18a. Cost of securing 34,700 signatures, £103 43 2d; telegrams, £4 2s 6d; postages, £2 13s 3d; advertising, printing, and stationery, £21 8a 6d: cost of cheque-book and bank charge, 7s; services of secretary. £14; secretary's sundry expenses. £2 9s: total, £148 4s sd. Cash in bank, £66 17s 4d; cash in hand, £5 16s 3d: total, £220 18s. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Kirker for his services. He said he resigned as he had to be away for some months, but he would remain a member of the league and help it all he could on his return. It was resolved to ask Mr. H. C. Tewsley to act as hon. treasurer. It was agreed that the Government bra asked to supply the league with a map showing the line adopted for the railway between Marton and Te Awamutu, and showing the points to which the railway is finished north of Marton and south of Te Awamutu, said map to show the boundaries and area of the land purchased out of th« million loan. An engineer was appointed to visit the line periodically and to report to the league as to its progress.
