[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. Wallace, who had both legs' amputated, as the result of the railway accident at Nghaurangtt, on the 2nd inst,, is progressing satisfactorily. The marine underwriters have decided to form a local branch of the New Zealand Association, and Mr. Ewen, of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has been appointed chairman. The Wellington Meat Export Company is erecting additional works and machinery, which will increase the capacity by 1500 sheep per day, and give storage for 40,000 sheep. Thos. Maguire, a fireman, was arrested to-night, on a charge of stabbing -Albert Wyatt, barman at the Empire Hotel. Wyatt ordered the man out, whereupon he i* alleged to have attacked him with a knife, aid cut the palm of bis hand open to tie bene. Mastkhton, Wednesday.
The new post office was formally opened by the Hon. W. C. Walker to-day. .Several heads of Departments were present. A social is being held to-night, at which the Hon. J. G. Ward is expected to ot pi i suit. Dunbdik, Wednesday. Warden Dalgleisn died at Nascby this morning after a short illness. Christchurch, Wednesday. The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association decided not to hold a winter show this year. It was agreed that the association's delegates to the Agricultural Conference should ask the conference to press on the Government the urgent need for a Bill, which would deal with the destruction of Californian thistle and other noxious weeds. The Education Board to-day decided that it could not see its way to alter or rescind resolutions previously passed, declining to undertake the inspection of Roman Catholic schools. „
