WELLINGTON ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

[IIT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Wellington,. Wednesday. The Acclimatisation Society, after allowing for liabilities, has a credit balance on the year of about £100. The annual report protests against the season for native game being opened on March 31, which the society considers a month too early. The reports show that a largo number of immature ducks end pigeons are sacrificed, and native game will soon be extinct if this is allowed to go on. The growth of close settlement in the Wairarapa is proving inimical to the red deer. They have been largely shot down, and will soon be driven to the back ranges in rough bush country. Some restriction is wanted on the number allowed to each sportsman, as there is reason to believe that a regular trade is carried on in stags' heads, and that the animals are shot all the year round.
