DESPERATE ENGAGEMENT.
REBELS ROUTED WITH GREAT
LOSS.

London, May 7. Ten thousand Ashantis surrounded Sir F. M. Hodgson, Governor of Gold Coast Colony, at Kurudsi Fort on April 29. Desperate fighting occurred, the rebels being routed with great loss. Several guns were abandoned. Some of the natives used their arms with great precision.
Two of the constabulary were killed and 133 wounded.
The situation on the 3rd was leassuring.
