OVERWORKED CLERKS.
TO THE EDITOR. _ Sir,—Kindly allow mo the privilege of adding my feeble protest in support of tho cry which has at Inst found voico against the unfair and, I believe, unlawful treatment that hundreds of clerks and warehousemen receivo at the hands of thoughtless and inconsiderate employers in this city. Tim "worm will turn," and it is surprising that stops have not been taken long ago to stamp out this existing and ever-growing evil. Can you kindly inform us to what extent the law at present protects this much overworked and hardly-pressed class ? If any such law exists, I have never heard of any prosecutions for its infringement, and this is certainly not from lack of overwhelming evidence, for anyone, passing down Queenstreet in the evening will notice lights burning nightly in tho offices of our principal merchants, warehouses, and banks. Tlio time is now opportune for all thoso who are sufferers from this evil to combine and form a powerful association, and by proper organisation and united efforts tako such action as will effect the much-needed reform ; and if nocessary attain legislation that will result in the enforcement of measures which will alleviate thoso existing hardships,-I am, etc., Another Victim.
