TE AROHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of tho Council was held on Wednesday night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. Jas. Mills) and Messrs. O Meagher, Bygrave, Gallagher, and Edwards. Tenders for carting tho water-supply pipes from the wharf to the various streets were opened, and that of P. Bain®, at Is 2Jd per ton, was accepted. The engineer (Mr. Pavitt) was in attendance, with specifications and plans for laying the pipes. These wore considered, and the following amendments made:-That the period of maintenance after completion of the work be two months, and that the top of the pipes be loin below the surface level of the street, except in Wliitakcr and Bridge Streets, where the depth must be 2ft. Tenders were ordered to bo advertised in the To Aroha faeroa, Thames, and Auckland (Herald) papers, and to bo returnable on Saturday, November *. Applications from Messrs, Baino and Kersey Cooper, for repairs to the approaches to their properties, were referred to tho Works Committee. Mr. O'Meagher was granted permission to erect a horsetrough in Rolleston-street, opposite the Grand Hotel. , M ,- J. W. talker wrote stating that he had applied to the GovernSnn ♦ f0 / n " n ° ptl0 I of - and protection for. MO to 600 acres of unoccupied mining land in the district. Ho was confident that if the application was granted, he' could procure sufficient capital for the development of this ground on a scale calculated to oonadorably benefit the district. He asked for the Council s sanction arid approval. The Council cordially approved of the proposal, and decided to gender him what assistance they could. legitimately.
