GOLDFIELDS ROADS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COMIESfONDENT.] Paekoa, Tuesday. A meeting of delegates representing the Tauranga and Ohinemuri County Councils was held at the Rob Roy Hotel, Waihi, today, to consider the advisability of connecting the Waihi Beach with the two counties, by means of a good road. There were present : Messrs. Davidson (chairman), and J. W. Grey (Tauranga County Council), Cock (chairman) and Shaw (Ohinemuri County Council). Mr. Jordan (engineer. Tauranga County Council) and Messrs. Armstrong anil Corbeti (engineer and assistant respectively of the Oliinemuri County), were also present. According to the engineer's estimate, it was stated that the cost of making the road would run from £2000 to £2500, and after the advantages and benefits to be derived by both counties had been discussed, it was decided that the work should be proceeded with, each Council to construct the portion within its own boundaries. The road will thus be pushed ahead from both ends, until the junction is effected. In order to do this, Government aid will have to be solicited for a- subsidy, and it is hoped that this will be forthcoming, especially in view of the fact that the road will be of immense service in the successful opening up of a new goldfields district.
