THE ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP.

Bt the s.s. Takapuna, which arrived at Onehunga from Wellington yesterday, Messrs. R. Pownall and G. F. Hume, who will represent the Star Boating Club (Wellington) at the Rowing Championship Meeting on Saturday, were passengers, and were met on arrival by representatives from the Northern Rowing Union, and accorded a hearty welcome Mr. X. Styche, of the Canterbury Rowing Club, who has come up to attend the meeting, was also a passenger by tho same steamei. Yesterday afternoon tho visiting oarsmen were taken for a cruise round the harbour in the ferry steamer Takapuna, by Mr. John Marshall, and went down anil inspected the Takapuna course. There was a nice southerly breeze blowing, and the water along the course laid off was quite smooth. The party landed at the wharf, and were thon taken down to the Lake, and after viewing the beautiful scenery an adjournment was made to the Lake Hotel, where the health of the president (Mr. John Marshall), and success to the Northern Rowing Union, wero proposed by Mr. A. It. Fell (of Pinion), and cordially responded to, Mr. John Marshall replying. The visitors expressed themselves as being highly pleased with theii trip and the Takapuna course. It being impossible to get a steamer to lake the rowing boats down to where the races will take place, Mr. I'rombie, the secretary, is making arrangements to charter a scow for the purpose.
