FIRE BRIGADE SUPERINTENDENT.
[BT TEIEORAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CimiSTCHURrn, Wednesday. A special meeting of the City Council was held to consider the possible appointment of Mr. E. Smith, superintendent of the fire brigade, to a similar position in Wellington. After a long discussion it was resolved that the superintendent's salary be increased to £200, on condition that lie devote liis whole time to the Council. Mr. Smith has not yet intimated his acceptance or otherwise. His salary is at present £100 per annum.
