NEWS FROM THE MINES. [FROM OCR OWN" CORRKSI'O.VDEN'T.] Thames, Saturday. EUItANUI. The work of opening up Hunt's reef in the surface crosscut is advancing very satisfactorily, a length of 10ft being now driven on its course hillward, and 18ft seaward. The reef averages fully lit in thickness, is encased in an excellent class of sandstone country, and during the last two or three breakings down has shown considerable improvement in quality, the mineral indications being such as to expect meeting with the precious metal at any moment. As yet, however, no gold has been seen, but the ore is being saved for treatment. THAMES IIAI'RAKt. * At the present juncture, work in connection with this company's new pumping plant is confined principally to fitting together the different parts of the machinery. In the shaft a start has ueen made to prepare for placing the columns and rods,in position for the next set of plungers Below the 327 ft level, and men are also at work enlarging and timbering the chamber at the old No. 6 level. Everything possible is being attended to, with the view of bringing the plant to a state of completion as rapidly as possible, although there still remains a considerable amount of work to accomplish before everything will be in readiness to start pumping water from the shaft. At the Deep Sinker section there is no change to note in either of the two prospecting crosscuts. Both are being continuously pushed ahead, but as yet no important developments have occurred.
