DEATH OF A WELL-KNOWN HORSE TRAINER.
By Telegrapli.-Press Association.-Copyright. London, August 19. Matthew Dawson, tho well-known racehorse trainer, is dead. Matthew Dawson, who has just passed away, was in his timo one of the most famous trainers of the day, and his establishment at Heath House, Newmarket, sent cut a largo number of "classic" winners. Matthew Dawson's chief successes on the turf were Rained with horses owned by the lato Lord Falmouth, who was the leading patron of his stable for a long period. Lord Eosebery is another nobleman for whom he trained, and ha succeeded in supplying the winner of the Derby two years in succession with horses owned by tho Scottish carl. The following is a list of the leading winners trained by the lato Mr. Dawson:-Cecilia, Spiiuway, and Wheel of Fortune (winners of the One Thousand Guineas), Atlantic, Ohaiibert, Galliard, and Ladas (winners of the Two Thousand), Kingcraft, Silvio, Melton. hih\ and Sir Hugo (winners of the Dorby), Spi-J----away, Jannetle, Wheel of Fortune, and Bonny Jean (winners of tho Oaks), and Silvio Janncttc, Dutch Oven, Melton, and Sir Vis'to (winners of the St. Legor). Increasing years had caused Mr. Dawson to retire .rom tho ranks of public trainers, and of late he simply trained a few horses on his own account. _____«
