DEATH OF MR. ARCH. BARR.
[UY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Sunday. Mr. Archibald Barh, who was for 31 years chief postmaster in Dunedin, died last night. Ho came to the colony in 1819, but after some time went to Sydney, and was in tho Civil Service there. Returning to New Zealand ill 1856 lie became a clerk in the Customs and post office, and, on their separation, in the following year, Mr. Barr was appointed chief postmaster, His duties, when the gold rush set in, were very arduous, and lie had on several occasions to open the post office and get Government sanction afterwards. A number of officers in the department, including the present chief secretary, were trained under him. He retired in 1888. Mr. Barr leaves a widow, one son, and two daughters.
